Indigenous Blak Hack Program

What is Blak Hack?
The Indigenous Blak Hack Program (Blak Hack) is a week-long program held at 国民彩票's Kensington campus for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students in year 12.
Blak Hack empowers participants with problem-solving skills, fosters career exploration, and encourages cultural connection. Through engaging workshops, a dynamic hackathon, and mentorship from faculty and community leaders, students collaboratively develop solutions to real-world challenges.
Black Hack combines Indigenous perspectives with modern problem-solving techniques, providing students with a platform to grow confidence, teamwork, and critical thinking while gaining insights into future career pathways.

"Hacking" complex problems
Over the course of a week, students will participate in a聽hackathon聽(hacking marathon) where they will rapidly prototype聽innovative and novel solutions to a complex issue affecting Indigenous peoples.
In collaboration with 国民彩票 faculty staff, they'll learn strategies to break down large problems; seeing how different vocations (such as Law, Medicine and Engineering) approach and tackle challenges.
Community members will help students view the issue through social and cultural lenses, helping them sense-check if their solutions are appropriate聽and viable.
By the end of the week, students will have a framework to apply to the issues they'll face throughout their lives (both big and small) and a better understanding of which career path they'd like to follow.

A hackathon is an event where people come together to solve problems or create new ideas, usually within a set period, like 24 or 48 hours. It鈥檚 called a "hackathon" because it鈥檚 about quickly building (or "hacking together") a solution, whether it鈥檚 a new app, a plan, or a prototype. In a hackathon, participants work in teams, share their skills, and learn from each other.
